Liz Swann Comes Out And Letchford Is Denied CIIP Colours To Stand On The Mainland

And they are offCANVEY BEAT READERS will be interested to learn that the two most vociferous critics of articles posted on this Blog, whom were keen to argue that they had absolutely no political affiliation, have now declared themselves as Canvey Island Independent Party members.

Liz Swann, of the Canvey beachside Concord Pool cafe, who together with Bob Spink and CIIP councillors successfully campaigned for the pool to be transferred to Canvey Island Town Council (thus preserving her sister’s business at islander expense) will be standing for the TC in the island’s South Ward, this year, to keep an eye upon her family’s investment.

It is rumoured that, if returned, Liz’s first priority will be to replace the public trash bins along that part of the beach which the Town Council is now responsible for, and that have since been removed by the Borough Council.

Colin Letchford, on the other hand - purveyor of fraudulent petitions to the Borough - will be trying to infiltrate the mainland in the Cedar Hall ward’s Borough Council elections – as an independent candidate. Although (now) he is a publicly confessed member and active supporter of the CIIP, Colin has been denied the opportunity of adopting his party’s colours. (Further proof, if any were needed, that the Canvey Island Independent Party will always deny residents the opportunity of dislodging the Borough’s mainland Conservative majority in preference to remaining a static opposition that can continuously whine about being underrepresented and thus further its separatist ambitions).

Colin will apparently be basing his campaign upon yet another petition. This time he will be calling upon Castle Point Borough Council to return to the old Committee System (an option that is already being seriously considered by a Special Policy Development Group to which CIIP members have yet to offer any serious input).

Colin will be the only ‘independent’ standing in the local elections this year. But the good news for those wishing to dislodge the Tory’s hold on power is that Labour will be contesting all seats – both at Borough and Town Council level.

The Green Party is visible in three mainland seats – and the Liberal Democrats are unrepresented.
