DAVE BLACKWELL and his Canvey Island Independent Party (CIIP) are reportedly very pleased with themselves this week-end. At this time last week, the party was reeling from the revelations made on this Blog regarding its misappropriation of Veteran Charities’ funds and its weeding of anti-party comment from its Websites; but a week is a long time in local politics.
By mid-week it was clear that the Echo had no intention of reporting on Tuesday’s resident meeting regarding Essex County Fire & Rescue cuts, planned for the island, and instead was to promote the heroic CIIP leader and his cronies taking-on Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s as the two stores refused to advertise the party’s petition.
By the week-end the CIIP had succeeded in making the Fire Cuts story their own and, in not responding to this Blog’s allegations, had successfully consigned those politically dangerous stories to last week’s news.
In politics, it only matters what people remember when they cast their vote…
