Canvey Island: What Would You Fix?..

Have your sayIN THE RUN UP to this Blog’s live political debates in April – and the local elections in May – the Canvey Beat is asking all readers to either write-in or leave a comment on this post regarding any island issue that they think needs addressing by local politicians.

Is there a specific issue in your ward that the politicians have ignored; or is there a wider Canvey Island matter that irks you because it has not been addressed?

Are you happy with your ward’s Town and Borough councillors – or do you feel they have let you down?

Are you clear on whom to call about local matters – or are you confused about the distinction between Town and Borough councillors?

What pledges do you wish to hear from your Town and Borough Council candidates during the local elections in May?

This Blog has been heavily critical of the Canvey Island Independent Party (CIIP) and its failure to engage in the Democratic process for the benefit of islanders; but do you agree with those views? Do you think that the CIIP’s strategy of non-engagement has been successful in achieving results for islanders – or do you think that majority resident wishes have been ignored in favour of cheap, party-political publicity stunts?

Nationally, one in five of all those aged 16 to 25 years-old are unemployed and the local Borough Council has little choice but to shed staff as a result of the Government’s harsh fiscal measures. This will be a particularly hard year for those hoping to find work.

Are you likely to be effected by the cuts; or are you currently unemployed and looking for work? The Canvey Beat wants to hear your views on your, and the island’s, future.

Please take this opportunity of ensuring that those who serve us are made aware of your views…
