Calling All Castle Point Residents – And Bloggers!

Rebecca HarrisTHIS FRIDAY, the 3rd December, the Canvey Beat will be venturing into live Blogging with coverage of our local MP, Rebecca Harris, as she presents her Private Member’s Bill to the House of Commons. Live coverage will begin here at 9.00am and continue until the vote has been counted.

Visitors will be able to contribute by commenting; asking questions; and contributing to various live polls throughout the time the broadcast remains ‘on air’ – and any local Blog will be able to carry the feed (to ensure their readers remain on their sites) by simply emailing me a request for the embed code.

Rebecca’s Daylight Saving Bill has provoked controversy in the national newspapers, and here, as the momentum has grown towards placing the UK on ‘Berlin Time,’ which would see our clocks remain on British Summer Time next autumn – but still Spring forward and Fall back in subsequent years.

The Lighter Later Campaign, along with its 10:10 backers, RoSPA, the British Tourist Industry, and now the RAC, are backing the Single Double Summer Time (SDST) position on the grounds that the additional hour of evening sunlight will save lives on the UK’s roads; but there is strong evidence to suggest that their claims are bogus and that Portugal’s experience proves that the exact opposite is true.

The debate looks set to be one of the most controversial (and entertaining) this year.

Why not join us on Friday to witness the one debate, led by our new MP, which could have a dramatic impact upon all of our lives? Open Parliament’s video link alongside your usual browser window and join myself and Canvey Beat readers as we discuss the pros and cons of Rebecca’s proposals and take soundings of local opinion.

Be on the look-out for the next post, which will contain the prepared live feed and a link that you can use to be emailed a reminder before we go LIVE ONLINE
