Young Residents Requested To Complete Kismet Park Play-Space Survey

DESPITE Anne Wood’s well publicised complaints regarding Kismet Park’s Adizone and her Canvey Island Independent Party’s opposition to the park’s play-space budget being reduced by Castle Point Borough Council, it seems that the CIIP and its Town Council is unwilling to encourage the island’s younger generation to participate in the online survey designed to ensure that the needs of its young residents are met.

No information is provided on the Town Council Website, and it appears that no CIIP councillor has so far taken the trouble to encourage young resident participation in the exercise. Instead, CIIP councillors have been keen to call for Canvey Road’s railings to be replaced; re-launch their aborted campaign for a Youth Centre in the Paddocks under new leadership - and reduce previously encouraged resident expectation over Canvey Lake.

John Anderson is quoted as saying: ‘We have a three-year [Canvey Lake]programme at the moment, but things might change as the Government is about to announce spending cuts in local government, which could make things harder.’

Just what central government cuts have to do with Canvey Lake is anyone’s guess. The Canvey Island Town Council receives no central government funding, and will therefore not be subject to cuts. And the Canvey Lake project will be unaffected by any government cuts imposed on Castle Point Borough Council; because that body no longer has any responsibility for that particular community asset. Only Canvey Island residents now share the Canvey Lake financial burden – thanks to the CIIP Town Council.

No doubt we will hear more of government cuts being responsible for Town Council inactivity as the May elections approach – and nothing from the CIIP about its own incompetence. After all, it is easier to blame inaction on government cuts than it is to admit that the Town Council is virtually bankrupt and completely out of its depth.
